BIPT provides an update on EASEE charging stations.
In March 2023, a European safeguard procedure initiated by Elsäkerhetsverket (ESV), the Swedish authority responsible for electrical safety, led to a ban on the sale and installation of the “Easee Home” and “Easee Charge” charging stations, as well as to the obligation to remedy deficiencies of charging stations already installed.
BIPT had followed the decision of its Swedish counterpart ESV, which meant that the “Easee Home” and “Easee Charge” products could not be sold in Belgium either and that the manufacturer had to take corrective measures for the charging stations that had already been installed at customers’ premises.
On Monday 22 April, the Swedish Authority for Electrical Safety published a communication stating that it is not necessary to take measures for the already installed charging stations of the “Easee Home” and “Easee Charge” models.
BIPT agrees with that decision. This means that no measures need to be taken for charging stations that have already been installed in Belgium. In other words, these charging stations can continue to be used.
For the Swedish Electrical Safety Authority, the risk of serious defects is so small that it is not appropriate to require measures to be taken for charging stations that have already been installed.
Users of these products are advised to remain alert to any defects in their charging station and to report any problems to the manufacturer.
The Swedish ESV authority has also indicated that the sale of the Easee Home and Easee Charge charging stations remains prohibited. In line with this, the BIPT also confirms that the sale of these two models of charging stations remains prohibited in Belgium.
